[043] V.V.Ramani - India

[043] OM.2011.001 - V.V.Ramani - India - "Reflections" (14"x34" with mount) Collage

ARTIST NOTE:
Reflections speaks about the inward journey that each one of us takes  when we sit down to "reflect".It is not merely a "flashback bringing forth memories", but aims at providing an opportunity to work at improving oneself ,thus bringing about the" awakening of the spiritual chakras",even as we move towards self-improvement- like the cuts in the diamond that add dazzle to the gem, so also, each time, we sit to reflect (cutting off the negative traits), we aspire to add to our own personal dazzle.

It has been my intention to move beyond cut and paste and work in a most natural way- without pre-meditation and allow the colours and images to merge and blend on to my canvas transforming itself to look like a painting. On closer scrutiny, the images may shock the viewer, perhaps even amuse, but I have felt my works are best viewed from a distance.

V.V.Ramani is a Chennai - based artist from the Madras College of Arts and Crafts. He has been acknowledged for his versatility in various disciplines - paintings, murals, collages, designing for textiles, set-design for music/ dance stage, wedding décor, costume designing for dancers, teaching, dance and art based journalism. He is also a trained vocalist in Carnatic Music. Soaked in traditionalism, yet inspired and challenged by the Modern, Ramani’s works are truly this, and much more. Ramani has held one-man-shows and exhibited in group shows. He has the unique distinction of being the only artist in this world to hold an exhibition of collages using cork as a medium of art. He is also a recipient of the state level award for collage –"Navarasa”. His works are in the collections of the Government Museum, Chennai and private and corporate collections in India and abroad.
